CODEMKRS is a hackathon event organizer based in New Orleans, Louisiana dedicated to fixing problems using technology teams in code marathon events. These events are often connected to larger entertainment events or innovation conferences.
CODEMKRS Greater Goal is to integrate technology and technologists into the city of New Orleans and open a brick and mortar school to train the next generation of white hat hackers. Through a network of national and global events CODEMKRS seeks to bring New Orleans into the global innovation conversation.
CODEMKRS original hackathon the Super Challenge was organized by a volunteer, startup CEO and entertainment producer Travis Laurendine, in conjunction with the Tech Committee of the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee, Peter Mayer, and The Louisiana Technology Council. The event brought together developers and programmers from New Orleans and around the world to build mobile webapps in advance of Super Bowl XVII to help visitors to New Orleans have a "mobile optimized" experience. Since there were so many ideas for apps and little opportunity for developers to engage with the big game directly, Travis proposed that a hackathon be created to galvanize the technology community to do its part to ensure that visitors to the city have a great time and that they leave New Orleans with technology as part of their fond memories.
What happened after is history.
